Hôtel Clarendon

Hôtel Clarendon

Dating back to 1870, the Clarendon is the oldest hotel in Québec, easily recognizable thanks to its Art Nouveau and Art Deco style. Located in the heart of the Vieux-Québec, the hotel offers 143 completely renovated rooms with air conditioning and private bathrooms. Also meeting rooms for 10 to 150 people; the "Le Charles Baillairgé" restaurant, which is the oldest restaurant in Canada.

This hotel has been nicely maintained for its age. My room was small, but I had plenty of space and it had a charming old-world feel. It felt like stepping back in time. The room was clean and comfortable. Hotel staff was very friendly. Each night, when I returned to the hotel, I was greeted by the smooth sounds of a live Jazz band in the parlor-like bar off the lobby. Terrific location - right in the heart of the old city. Just a couple blocks from an amazing array of restaurants, shops and street performers. And the performers are nothing like the typical big city panhandlers. Artists and acrobats with a true flare for performance and engaging their audience.

for the most part our experience was fine. The valet staff was great. The front desk was slow, the same people that were checking us in were taking reservations. Not so good. Our room was small but nice and clean. Our room was next to the elevator a little noisy. The hotel was close to all major areas in Old Quebec: very beautiful. We had dinner at the hotel. The food was good but our service was lousy. I would stay at the hotel again but not eat there. Not too cheap to park. Twenty five dollars a day.

Stayed at the Clarendon one night to attend the Quebec Winter Carnival. The location could not have been better. Close to the carnival, restaurants, shops. Parking across the street for $14 per 24 hours, great price and they take your car over and return it when you leave. We booked 2 rooms for six people, we could not get adjoing rooms but did get them on the same floor, that was the only hiccup. The staff and service was very good. I would definatley recommend this hotel.

My girlfriend and I and her two young adult daughters spend three days between Xmas and New Year's at the Clarendon, and we were very pleased with the choice. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable (the high ceilings in this old building were a pleasure), the location of the hotel was ideal for walking just about anywhere in the surrounding Vieux Quebec, and the bi-lingual staff were professional and courteous. Other than a delicious family-styled breakfast offering, don't count on eating there, though (which is not a problem considering the wealth of dining options in town). We had briefly considered staying at the internationally known and sumptuous Chateau Frontenac Hotel just three blocks away, but took the chance on the lesser offerings of the Clarendon because it appeared charming enough from the web site, was less than half the cost, and we needed two rooms. Good decision. I would recommend the Clarendon without any hesitation for visitors seeking a pleasant, comfortable and convenient stay, if less-than luxurious, at a reasonable cost.

Right in the heart of Vieux Quebec We very much enjoyed our stay. Valet service for car was immediate, breakfast in dining room delicious. Room was a bit small. Amazing location with everything in an easy walking distance. Easier to reach by car than it looks on a map.

Great location For the location, this can’t be beat -- inside the old city walls, one block from the Frontenac, directly across from City Hall, and 2 blocks from both Rue St. Jean and Rue St. Louis. City parking -- underground -- is right across the street.
