July 2007 (Month Visited) — "A small boutique hotel with big ambitions, the staff was attentive, cheerful, and extraordinarily helpful. Built in an early 19th Century bank building, the rooms are modern, air-conditioned, and with whirlpool baths, and yet retain their assymmetric origins and original brick walls. Outstanding location, reasonable prices, I wouldn't stay anywhere else while visiting this lovely city!"

Small lower town (Basseville) hotel on Rue St Pierre, immaculately clean and recently renovated. Sister Hotel (Hotel 71) right next door. Small Lobby with connected breakfast room (free full brkfst each day), small library and small bar area with comfortable seats and small tables(drink specials each night). Our room 109 was large and airy with foyer and bath closed off from room with french doors. Seating area in the room with soft chairs, a writing desk and King bed. Armoire for storage but it is the only place to hang items- makes it difficult if you have a lot of hanging clothes. Coat rack in the foyer. Bath has full tub with jets in the bottom, uncomfortable to stand on when showering, it also self cleans the jets ten minutes after it is shut off, that was a bit annoying until wecalled about it. The desk people and valet were wonderful, helpful, full of good advice and ever ready to serve. Simon was excellent. The hotel is a five minute walk from the city albeit uphill. You can take the Funiculair (a ramp elevator car) at rue Petit Champlain if you don't want the hike up. Walking was a great way to burn off the many calories ingested at some wonderful restaurants.

This place is excellent for business travelers - I stayed there on so many occasions. Hilton and Loews can be so boring ! For a little more, for for the same price, you get the charm of the Vieille Capitale. When I travelled for business I would not have my own car - took taxis instead - so the location in the Basse Ville was not an issue. You can get to any part of the city for less than $15 by cab (more often, $8 to $10). True, this area is highly touristic, but in low season it is very quiet. Important note: when you make reservations, ask for a renovated room !!! This makes all the difference ! I can understand why some reviewers were somehow disappointed by their room, judging by the photographs they were in the part that had not been recently renovated. These rooms are fine, but nothing in comparaision to the more recent ones.

Hotel was very nice, had a room in the front overlooking the street. Room was considered a Suite, was very large, nicely furnished, Staff from bellman, desk clerk, housekeeping, etc. very friendly and helpful. Breakfast selection very extensive for such a small hotel, Couple of minor issues which did not distract from our stay. Decaf coffee wasn't available, Three thermostats in the rooms, never did figure out which one did what, TV could not be seen from the bed, like I said, all very minors comments. Hotel is nicely located for tourist, near the waterfront, etc. Never had to use taxi or bus since everything is within walking distance. We were taking a cruise after our stay, the hotel is so near the cruise terminal we just walked over carrying our suitcases. (to clarify did use cab for airport to hotel) Highly recommend the hotel.
