Hôtel Le Priori

Hôtel Le Priori

This hotel, located in the Vieux-Port/Place Royal sector, is renowned for its contrasting decor. The charm of stone walls accompanies the warm tints, avant-guardist furnishings and stainless steel. Following its renovation, this historic building was awarded a certificate of recognition from the Commission de l'Urbanisme et de Conservation de la Ville de Québec.

This hotel is in a great location, looks nice from the outside and the lobby looks decent. So I would agree with other reviews on these points. But that is where it ends based on our experience - we didn't even get to see the inside of our room! My girlfriend and I arrived around 2pm on a Saturday, after driving for 6 hours to get to Quebec. The woman at the desk looked up our reservation, said she remembered making it herself (based on the booking we did online), but that she booked it starting on Monday and not Saturday. In addition the hotel was fully booked for the weekend! I had a print out to prove I had the correct dates, but that didn't matter. She apologized, but really didn't seem too bothered about it...as if this is a regular occurrence. As it turns out, it IS a regular occurrence...a family in line behind us ended up having the same problem and was pushed to another hotel as well. The woman called some other hotels nearby, and luckily we had a few choices for hotels in the same area. But the rate was higher, and Le Priori wouldn't compensate us for the difference. It almost felt like a bait and switch technique. But we ended up at Hotel 71, and LOVED it. It was definitely classier and had nicer amenities than Le Priori. I would recommend that hotel for a little extra money. Or, if you plan to stay at Le Priori, call several times to confirm your reservation! This review is the subjective opini

Le Priori is located just outside the city walls of Quebec in Basse Ville. We had considered somewhere in the centre of the old city but Le Priori turned out to be the best choice. It is a modernised 5 storey building and is reasonably small. The reception staff are friendly and welcoming and the room was modern and comfortable. Breakfast is served in the restaurant joining the hotel and is a reasonable selection of fruit, cereals and scrambled eggs and bacon although the breakfast staff do not always replace dishes that are empty. They have a cookie cake with nuts and chocolate chips that is really delicious. Vieux Quebec is all hills and staying at Le Priori was no problem as we found most of the restaurants inside the town were very touristy, whereas the ones on the outside had more character, were friendlier and had a better choice of reasonably priced meals on offer.

Dave and I stayed here for the second half of our honeymoon in August 2007. It is tucked away on a quaint side street, apparently the oldest street in North America, in the old part of Quebec City. Keep your eyes peeled, it is there! We had no problems checking in, and it was done in a good amount of time. The lady at the front desk led us right to our room. We were in a standard room, which was on the main floor of the hotel, but it is not a standard hotel. In the centre of the hotel is an open courtyard with a restaurant. Our room door opened directly into the restaurant, which can cause a problem with privacy (we had a bit of difficulty with the blinds), and noise. One evening there was a particularly loud party right outside our door and there was nothing we could do about it. We called the front desk and they asked them to keep it down. The room was nicely decorated and clean with a comfortable bed and a good sitting area. I liked the bathroom as well. The tub was a bit small, but the shower (spacious and with two shower heads) made up for it. The hotel has breakfast every morning in the attached Restaurant Toast, which consisted of eggs, bacon, croissants, fruit, cereal and more, plus coffee, juice, tea or whatever beverage you like. The service was average, nothing to complain about, but I expected a little bit more from a hotel like this.
