I love this restaurant. The costumes, the food and the building itself brings you into the world of Old Quebec City the 1700s. I did three courses with maple syrup - salad with maple syrup dressing, duck in maple syrup and maple syrup pie! Fabulous!!

We just loved this one. We ate out 3x a day and this one was one of the top 5. Lunch is fabulous deal.

Located at 34 Rue Saint-Louis, Aux Ancienes Canadiens is in a great spot, very easy to get to. This restaurant has it all. The location as I mentioned, the structure itself is super interesting, said to be the oldest building in Canada, the food is true French Canadien cuisine, the service is excellent and the ambience perfect for the type of restaurant it is. This restaurant does stand apart from others because of all those factors. There are several different choices and combinations you can try depending on how many courses you wish your dinner to be. The staff is very helpful explaining everything to you and making suggestions on what they think you would like. Everything we ate here was absolutely delicious. They start off dinner by bringing several types of homemade hot breads to your table from there it just keeps getting better. There are nice little touches like leaving the soup terrine at your table, allowing you to serve your own soup and have a second bowl if you wish. I wouldn't recommend that though as there is so much more food to come and you want to be able to walk out of the restaurant as compared to be wheeled out from being so stuffed! The salad dressing is so tasty, we had our choice between fresh cream and chives dressing or maple syrup dressing...so I ordered the cream and my husband ordered the maple syrup, that way we were able to sample each other's dressing and they were both amazing. The baked beans comes in a crispy little tart, the meat pie is perfect just the right amount of spices and the list just goes on and on. Dessert was a huge piece of maple syrup pie, too big to even finish. One word of caution if you are going to dine at Aux Ancienes Canadien, have a very light breakfast and lunch. Oh yes if you are watching your weight stay as far away from this place as you can!

We enjoyed this restaurant so much, we ate there three days in a row. Each visit, we ordered something different and it was all wonderful. We especially enjoyed a relish that was on our plate, which they call Quebec fruit ketchup. It was a sweet/sour combination of tomatoes, onions, celery, peaches and pears. I just recently found a recipe for it and decided to try my hand at it. It turned out very well, but it was time-consuming to prepare...lots of chopping. I'm hoping I can find it for sale somewhere online.

I wanted Quebecois food and this was the place to have it! Seating before 5:30 allows one to have the special menu at a reduced charge. This made it a reasonably price meal. I paid the "add-on" fees for both the onion soup and the maple syrup pie. They were both worth it!
