Chez Temporel

Chez Temporel

Rustic decor incorporates wooden tables, chairs, and benches, and a tiny staircase leads to an upper level. The café perfumed with the aroma of fresh coffee attracts visitors, locals and students alike. Chez Temporel is a great place to stop by late in the afternoon for a quick café au lait and pastry. Equally delicious are the croquet-monsieur and quiche Lorraine. If you see a table, don't wait!

At this small, crowded, once-upon-a-time smoky café, city dwellers of all sorts -- struggling writers, marginal musicians, street-smart bohemians, bureaucrats, businessmen, and busy moms and dads -- enjoy the city's best coffee, not to mention its best croque monsieurs (open-face French-bread sandwiches with ham, tomato, and broiled cheese), chili, and soups. Good, modestly priced beer and wine are also served. Some patrons start their day here with croissants and coffee at 7 AM and are still here when the place closes at 1:30 AM (an hour later on Friday and Saturday).
